Our Mission
Sound Beach Day School is a private program dedicated to enriching the lives of preschool children in our community. Licensed by the State of Connecticut (#70323).  We aim to provide a warm, safe and nurturing environment that supports the "whole" child - helping them to grow every day in every aspect of their social, emotional, cognitive and physical development.

Our program lays the foundation for your child's lifelong skills as a learner, teaching them how to build and sustain relationships, respect others, share and take responsibility. We value play as a means of developmentally appropriate learning. We rely on and believe in family and community involvement in the life of our school.

Our Philosophy

We approach teaching with a child-centered philosophy.
Our Program is inspired by the schools of Reggio Emilia and
The Project Approach in Early Childhood Development,
whose beliefs are founded on:

  • Developmentally Appropriate Practice - teachers meeting young children where they are by stage of development as an individual and as a group.
  • Build on a child's natural curiosity.
  • Allows them to ask questions, explore, investigate and problem solve.
  • Actively motivates their individual way of thinking in a stimulating environment.
  • Children focus their learning by working with art, sensory play, nature, outdoor play, math and language.
